How to Verify an Overseas Recruiter

Practical checks you can run on any recruiter before engaging with them.

Start with identity. A legitimate recruiter can be found through independent sources: a registered company, a verifiable office address, a consistent online presence, and contact details that match the organisation they claim to represent.

  • Search the company's registration number in the destination country's official registry
  • Check whether the email domain matches the company's official website
  • Look for a track record — not accounts created a few weeks ago
  • Call the employer through their published contact details, not the ones the recruiter gave you

If basic information cannot be independently confirmed, treat the opportunity as unverified until it can be. A professional recruiter will not object to reasonable verification.
