How to Check Whether a Job Offer Is Genuine
A checklist approach to testing whether an offer letter actually holds up.
A genuine offer letter can survive scrutiny. Check the employer's registration, the signatory's identity, the sender's email domain, and whether the salary and role match market conditions in that country.
Cross-check any visa or work-permit claims. In most countries, work permits are processed through official government channels — not arranged privately by a recruiter in exchange for a fee.
- The employer exists in official registries
- Contact details match public records
- Terms stay consistent across emails and documents
- No unexplained payment is required to “secure” or “release” the offer
When several checks cannot be confirmed, the safest next step is an independent review — before you commit money or sensitive documents.
